HLI, starting around 9-10 years ago, has provided virtuall all thee Landscape Designs for my front and backyards Through the help of Sanson Faltine and his talented team,, HLI installed all the individually stacked , natural rock slate edging accenting the flower beds in my front yar d. Also HLI installed a irregular natural rock walkway between my driveway and centered sidewalk. In the backyard , HLI performed a design only Sanson could have envisioned. After installing all of the landscape plants and cutting flowerbeds from a complete empty canvas of just sod, covering my patio slab with tile...about a year later, HLI put in a water feature that I have not seen a rival too. How much does a backyard remodel cost in Houston?
A backyard remodel can be one piece or a full outdoor living space, so the range is wide. From our service pages, standard outdoor kitchens start around $8,000 to $15,000, standard patio covers around $4,000 to $10,000, and entry-level landscape lighting around $1,500 to $3,000. Should I choose a patio cover, pergola or gazebo?
A patio cover has a solid roof, so it blocks sun and rain and can hold ceiling fans and lights. It is often attached to the house. A pergola has an open or slatted top that gives partial shade and a lighter look, and it works well over dining areas or turf. A gazebo is a freestanding roofed structure, often set out in the yard as its own destination. We look at sun angles and your roofline before we suggest one.
Can you add to my existing patio?
Yes. Many of our outdoor living projects start with a patio the homeowner already has. We can extend the patio, add a cover or pergola over it, build an outdoor kitchen on one side, or add a fire pit and seat wall. If the old concrete is sound but worn, a decorative overlay can give it a fresh surface. We check the slab, drainage and roofline first.
Can I build my outdoor living space in phases?
Yes. Some homeowners start with the patio and patio cover, then add the kitchen, fire pit or lighting later. If you plan to phase the work, tell us at the first visit. We can design the full space up front and run gas, power or water lines in the first phase where it makes sense, so later additions go in without tearing up finished work.
Do outdoor kitchens and patio covers need permits in the Houston area?
Often, yes. Covered structures and new gas, electrical or plumbing lines usually need a permit, and each city and HOA has its own rules. Houston, Katy, Sugar Land and other nearby cities all handle this a little differently. We talk through the permit and HOA steps for your address at the site visit, so there are no surprises once work starts.
