How much does a paver walkway cost in Houston?
Most walkways we build fall into three ranges. Simple paths under 100 linear feet in gravel, decomposed granite or basic pavers run about $1,500 to $4,000. Paths of 100 to 250 linear feet with flagstone, stamped concrete or brick run about $4,000 to $8,000. Longer or more detailed walkways start around $8,000. Width, base work, steps, edging and lighting all affect the price. We give you a free, itemized estimate after we walk the route with you.
What is the best material for a walkway in Houston?
It depends on the look you want and your budget. Pavers are a strong all-around choice because they flex with clay soil and are easy to repair. Concrete costs less and gives a smooth, continuous surface, but it can crack if the ground moves. Flagstone looks natural and works well for garden and cottage-style yards. Gravel and decomposed granite are the lowest-cost options and let rain soak in, but they need edging and an occasional top-up. We bring samples so you can compare them in person.
How do you keep a walkway from sinking or cracking?
It comes down to the base, the edges and the water. We dig out soft soil and build a compacted gravel base, usually 4 to 6 inches deep for foot traffic and deeper where the soil drains poorly. We set edge restraints so pavers cannot spread, and we slope the path so water runs off instead of soaking the clay underneath. For concrete paths, we add control joints so any cracking follows straight, planned lines.
Can you replace the cracked sidewalk in front of my house?
Yes. We replace broken concrete walks and sidewalks, including the public sidewalk along the street. In the City of Houston, the owner of the property next to a sidewalk is generally responsible for repairing it, and work in the public right-of-way needs a city permit. Other cities and HOAs have their own rules. Our driveways and sidewalks page explains more, and we can talk through your situation during a free site visit.
Can you add lighting to a walkway?
Yes. We install low-voltage path lights, step lights and bollard-style fixtures along new or existing walkways. Lighting makes the path easier to follow at night and helps guests spot steps and turns. If we are building a new walkway, we can bury the wiring along the path during construction, which keeps it tidy and protected. You can choose warm or cool light and add a timer so the lights come on at dusk.
Do you build paths to patios, gates and putting greens?
Yes. Many of our walkway jobs connect different parts of the yard, like a path from the back door to a patio, from the driveway to a side gate or out to a putting green.
